Koloa Elementary School raises money with Holiday Gift Bags

On April 30th The Shops at Kukui`ula will be presenting a $2,100.00 check to Koloa Elementary School’s annual Holiday Gift Bag fundraiser.  The check presentation will take place at The Shops at Kukui’ula weekly Kauai Culinary Market at 5pm. Select merchants at The Shops at Kukuiʻula sold holiday bags decorated by Koloa Elementary School students.  Each one-of-a-kind bag was hand-decorated and available for a minimum donation of one dollar.  The funds will be used for operational costs to benefit the school.  This year the school hopes to use the funds to purchase new computers.

In addition to the check presentation the Koloa School Ukulele Band will be performing a special May Day performance for the public. Also launched that day will be an art exhibit on display that will feature all grades and spotlight their new “Great Artists” program.  The program was created and organized by the PTA and parent volunteers.  Each month Koloa School students learn about a Great Artist, and have the opportunity to recreate one of their masterpieces.  Examples of work include Davinci’s “Mona Lisa”, Monet’s “ Starry Night” and “Goldfish” by Matisse. The exhibit will open April 30th and will be open through May 10th for The Shops at Kukui’ula popular Art Walk event.

“The continuous support we receive from The Shops at Kukuiʻula is overwhelming,” said Leila Kobayashi, Student Service Coordinator of Koloa Elementary.  “Without our partnership with The Shops at Kukuiʻula, we wouldn’t be able to fund some of the educational projects we’ve done at Koloa Elementary for the last four years.”
