Sailing Canoe Season Closes, Team Maui Jim Finishes First

Kaua`i captain, Donny Jones, center, of Team Maui Jim, assists teammates rig their sailing canoe for the Kendall Pacific Sailing Canoe race Saturday. Team Maui Jim finished first in just over three hours.

Teams paddled the 29 mile course between Kalapaki Bay and Kekaha Small Boat Harbor in  predictably light September wind. A surprising breeze showed up at the end of the race, closing the distance between canoes in the final leg for a scramble for second and third place. Team White Orchid Weddings finished second and Nalu Koa finished third.
