The public is invited to the Rice Street Reveal event along the shared-use path by ‘Eiwa Street in Līhu‘e on Sunday, Jan. 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to a news release from the County of Kaua‘i.

The free event, featuring local craft vendors, live music and food trucks, celebrates portions of the Līhu‘e Town Core Mobility and Revitalization project that are near completion.

“We are excited to be unveiling our shared-use path, transit hub, and the Līhu‘e Lua,” Mayor Derek Kawakami said. “I would like to thank the Rice Street Business Association, Līhu‘e Business Association, and the Rice Street Reveal Committee for their diligent work to make this event possible.”

The Līhu‘e Town Core Mobility and Revitalization project is mostly funded from the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program. In 2015, the County of Kaua‘i was awarded this $15.1 million TIGER grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The county is funding an additional $2 million for the project. TIGER grants are targeted investments for local communities that increase safety, create jobs, and modernize the country’s infrastructure.

The Līhu‘e Town Core Mobility and Revitalization project includes streetscape improvements, development of a transit hub, new and expanded sidewalks, a shared-use path, improved bus stops and bike facilities, safer pedestrian crossings, and dedicated on-street parking.
