Reminder: Puhi Metals begins eWaste recycling service today

Resource Recovery Solutions, who operates Puhi Metals Recycling Center (PMRC), is now accepting eWaste at no cost to residents and businesses.

The new service is offered during the center’s regular hours of operation, Monday to Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. PMRC is located at 3951 Puhi Road.

Among the assortment of old electronics that can be brought to the center are televisions, laptops, desktop computers, printers, audio and video equipment, and gaming devices.

In addition, satellite dishes and systems as well as small household appliances such as toasters, blenders, coffee makers, hair dryers, vacuum cleaners, etc. are also accepted at the PMRC. Previously these types of items were not accepted at eWaste events.

A complete list of acceptable items can be found on the county website, www.kauai.gov/ewaste.

“Kaua‘i is the first county in the state where residents and businesses now have access to free e-Waste recycling six days a week, thanks to our partnership with Resource Recovery Solutions,” said Acting County Engineer Lyle Tabata. “This allows the public to conveniently recycle their old electronics, keep toxic waste out of our landfill and preserve our resources for future generations.”

The eWaste will be packed on site and shipped to IMS Electronics Recycling in Vancouver, Wash. where they will be disassembled and separated for recycling.
