Jan 11 Grand Opening Activities for Kaua`i Ocean Discovery, Kukui Grove Center

The public is invited to the Grand Opening of Kaua`i Ocean Discovery, a new educational facility that shares the traditions and knowledge of our ocean connections and inspires stewardship. Presented by NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries and the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, in partnership with Kukui Grove Center.

Take a tour of the extensive Hawaiian archipelago, including Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary and Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument. Visit an underwater world through videos, interactive displays, and hands-on activities. Keiki Corner provides ocean-themed fun for the little ones.

The center-wide Grand Opening celebration features free family entertainment, including an opening ceremony, two Center Stage performances by Honu by the Sea, and hands-on learning opportunities around Kukui Grove Center. Tours inside Kamakai, the inflatable whale, crafts, reef activities, story-telling, and ocean puppets. Free and open to the public.

Saturday, January 11, 2020. 10:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.

10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.: Opening ceremony at Kaua`i Ocean Discovery

11:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.: Kaua`i Ocean Discovery open to public

11:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.: Performances of Honu by the Sea on Center Stage

NOON- 3:00 p.m.: Hands-on activities around the center, tours of Kamakai
