Orchid and Art Festival

On Friday night, gallery and shops will be open in regular Friday Art Night fashion, but the focus is on art around orchids. Some galleries may do specific shows…it’s up to individuals to decide how they wish to  participate. Friday and Saturday plein air painters set up around the town, so there are artists outside painting throughout the weekend. On Friday afternoon the Garden Island Orchid Society opens its annual Spring Fantasy Orchid Show. The flowers are amazing! There is a competition, and the winners are always stunners!

On Saturday, the stage show  begins mid-morning with Taiko drumming, a crowing contest for kids of all ages, and is followed by a concert featuring a variety of slack key musicians. The crowning point of the event is a free concert from Makana, which is well attended by locals and visitors alike. Photo of Makana is attached below, photo credit to Jeff Mallin.

There are several art workshops, including an  orchid painting workshop with renowned artist Saim Caglayan and a watercolor painting workshop, as well as children’s art activities and other events for keiki. There’s a craft fair and silent auction at the church next to the stage. Food vendors set up throughout the town, and shops and galleries are open on Saturday as well.

All events except specific workshops are free and open to the public. We hope to see you at this year’s Kauai Orchid and Art Festival!
