Island School’s four choral ensembles, together comprising the Island School Chorus, take the stage again at the Kaua’i Community College Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, April 22 to present their seventh annual spring concert. Of Mouse and Music showcases over 125 students singing beloved favorites and lesser-known gems from the Disney songbook.

“Our first all-Disney concert was in 2011 and it remains one of our most popular performances. The students still reminisce about it. Many people know I spent almost fifteen years as a performer at Walt Disney World before becoming a teacher,” said director Philip Steinbacher, “so it makes perfect sense that I’d want to create another opportunity to pay homage to the music of those amazing films. I was raised on Disney tunes, as many people were, and Disney is a major component of popular culture all over the world. Of course the students have favorites that we just had to include, but there are other wonderful pieces that never seem to get their due. I wanted to make sure to share some of those with the audience as well.

Disney played such an important role in my childhood and I spent many of my adult years immersed in the magic and music of Disney. Naturally, I’d want to inspire others to consider just how viable, beautiful, and timeless this music is. It isn’t just “cartoon” music; it has musical merit and worth. I think it will be a delightful, memorable evening for everyone.”

Of Mouse and Music is accompanied by Rose Alfiler. Tickets are available at the Island School office beginning April 2 and at the KCC box office on April 22 as space permits.
