Kauai Path and friends are hosting a potluck, BYOB Appreciation Night for the 25 Innovative Readiness Training military personnel who are now here on Kaua‘i building the Kawaihau Boardwalk, according to a news release from the nonprofit Kaua‘i Path.

Everyone is invited for the potluck dinner tonight at Lydgate Park’s main pavilion from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

When completed, the Kawaihau Boardwalk, also known as the Kawaihau Spur, will connect the residential Kawaihau Road area to the coastal stretch of Ke Ala Hele Makalae with a walkable, bikeable route.

The Kawaihau Boardwalk construction is scheduled to be complete around the end of July.

Military personnel are being deployed to Kaua‘i on an extended trading mission in a series of two-week-long rotations. The 25-member Rotation #1 crew now here will leave Kauai May 23, so Kaua‘i Pat is asking the community to honor their efforts with a memorable social event while they are on island.

Building the Kawaihau Boardwalk is scheduled to take fife military training rotations, with each rotation lasting two weeks. This is the first community potluck event to express Kaua‘i’s gratitude to the personnel on the first rotation.
