The county Department of Water is hosting an informational meeting for the upcoming Reorganization and Improvements Construction Project for the Hanapēpē-Ele‘ele Water System on Aug. 1 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Hanapēpē Neighborhood Center, according to a county news release.

The Hanapēpē-Ele’ele Water System Reorganization and Improvements Construction Project is part of the DOW’s Water Plan 2020, a comprehensive long-range plan that addresses the need to upgrade aging infrastructures on Kaua‘i.

Work will include installation of a 16-inch main line along Kaumuali‘i Highway, a new 6-inch main line replacement on Hanapēpē Road and installing appurtenances that will include an additional 12-inch and 8-inch main lines, connections to existing waterlines, new service laterals, new valves, new fire hydrants, an emergency pump connection, and other restoration and repaving work.

“This project will improve service areas in old Hanapēpē Town and address the current and future needs of the Hanapēpē-’Ele’ele water system,” said Dustin Moises, DOW’s chief of construction management. “The DOW worked with the community to complete the planning and design phase over the past few years and we encourage residents and businesses to attend this informational meeting to learn more about the upcoming construction phase and discuss any concerns with our contractor, DOW staff and consultants.”

Work is scheduled to begin in September, with anticipated completion in July 2019. Auxiliary aids, services and materials in an alternate format are available upon request and should be made no later than five working days prior to the meeting.
