KPD Chief Todd Raybuck

The Kaua‘i Police Department has launched an online platform that allows people to conveniently file reports, including those pertaining to violations of COVID-19 emergency orders, according to a news release by the County of Kaua‘i.

Due to the recent COVID-19 crisis, dispatchers have been experiencing an increase in calls to KPD’s non-emergency number, 241-1711.

“Many of our incoming calls have been related to people reporting COVD-19 emergency orders and a lack of adherence to them,” KPD Sgt. Stacy Perreira said. “By having an online platform for people to easily file reports, we can give our dispatchers a better opportunity to handle each call coming through.”

The types of crimes that can be reported online are as follows:

  • COVID-19 emergency order violations
  • General report
  • Minor traffic collision
  • Lost property
  • Criminal property damage – graffiti
  • Criminal property damage
  • Theft of property
  • Theft – shoplifting (suspect is not in custody)
  • Misc. public civil – incidents that are documented only, such as landlord/tenant disputes

“This allows our community to better report non-emergency incidents so that we can reduce the workload on our hardworking dispatchers and reduce the call volume for service when an officer needs to respond,” KPD Chief Todd Raybuck said. “This provides us with the opportunity to better serve the community while reducing the risk of exposure to COVID-19. It also lets the officers prioritize their time so that they can handle higher priority calls.”

Visit https://www.kauai.gov/KPD-Online-Reporting to file a report, provided that the reported crime is not currently in progress and the suspect is not currently present.

Online reports can be completed from any device that has internet access, including smartphones, tablets or desktop computers.

There is also always the option to report a tip anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers Kaua‘i at 246-8300 or by visiting www.crimestopperskauai.org.
