Kevin’s Gate: Opening of The International Children’s Garden of Peace

On July 21, 2012 from 6 -10 pm. at Storybook Theatre, Hanapepe Town, Kauai, slack key guitar legend, Cyril Pahinui, Hoku Hanohano Award winner with a discography of over 35 Hawaiian releases, headlines the opening of The International Children’s Peace Garden Party.  Tickets are available on-line www.storybook.org  and are $50. each, including wine and pupus.

Kevin’s Gate, an interactive sound sculpture designed by the late O’ahu architect Kevin Chun is being fabricated by Kauai multi-media, public place sculptor Wayne Zebzda.  In an interview, he stated how the elements of Hawaii are incorporated into the gate, the sun, moon, waves and spiraling clouds combine in a fanciful tree of life pattern making the gate a unique design.  The gate is 9 feet wide by 16 feet high made of metal.  Over one hundred hand cast brass bells hang on the gate turning it into a giant wind chime. A special door for children is also part of the design.

Kim Duffett, Children’s Peace Garden artist and Wayne Zebzda will be installing the gate on June 24^th.  The installation will be a great Photo. Opportunity for press and other media.  Call Mark at 335-0712 for installation details.
