Michelle_Lemay-WebTasting Kauaʻi is pleased to announce two new food tours. This is the third food tour the company offers and each takes place once a week. Created by Marta Lane, a Kauaʻi-based food and farm writer for The Garden Island newspaper, these tours are an educating feast for the senses.

Kauai Food Tour – North Shore is a flavorful adventure to out-of-the way establishments that includes tastings of products made with exotic fruit, traditional Hawaiian food and Tiki cocktails. Guests meet farmers, chefs and food artisans on this exclusive food tour, which is centered on the regional cuisine of Hawaii, where the host community lives, eats and plays.
Kauai Food Tour – South Shore invites guests to sample the sights, flavors and history of Kauaʻi’s sunny South Shore. The stops are a celebration of street food inspired by Hawaii’s diverse cultures. Experience super fresh Japanese food, taste sensational street tacos, sample tropical gelato while it’s being made and learn about Hawaiian staple foods. Along the way, guests meet Kauaʻi’s farmers, chefs and food artisans. This unique food tour concludes at the Kauaʻi Culinary Market, which is Kauaʻi’s premiere gourmet farmers market.

Both tours are 4-hours, cost $120 and include tastings at six stops, an experienced guide with plenty of local culinary knowledge and lots of tasty surprises in between. Each tour celebrates Kauaʻi’s culinary uniqueness by sharing tasty trends and intimate connections with residents who grow and make food. Guests will also meet local farmers and have an opportunity to taste exotic fruit in the midst of the Garden Island’s lush surroundings. Space is limited to 10 people per tour and reservations are required.

Tasting Kauaʻi donates a portion from each tour to the Hawaii Foodbank – Kauaʻi Branch (HFBKB), which is the only food bank on Kauaʻi that is audited by Feeding America and is required to meet strict national guidelines for the safe handling and distribution of food, financial and administrative practices as well as donor/agency relations. Seventy-three percent of HFBKB’s households are food insecure, meaning they do not always know where they will find their next meal; 66 percent of these households include children.

Tasting Kauaʻi’s tours are expertly guided by Michelle Lemay, a Hawaii resident for the last 10 years. She has worked as a professional tour guide around Hawaii, the West Coast and internationally for the last nine years. Michelle has extensive personal knowledge of local restaurants and enjoys connecting with guests and sharing information pertinent to the area and topic at hand.
