“Have you seen the nightingale? Pretty little nightingale?” If you haven’t you need to come to Kalaheo Elementary School’s production of The Nightingale on April 25th, 26th  and May 2nd and 3rd.

The Nightingale is the engaging tale of an emperor who brings an ordinary bird with a beautiful song to the palace, where she’s told to sing forever. Eventually, a jeweled mechanical bird takes her place, and the nightingale, forgotten, flies away. When the jeweled bird—like all mechanical things—breaks, the emperor grows ill and longs for the song of his nightingale. As the play unfolds, the audience will learn—along with the emperor—that birds must be free to share their songs with everyone.

The emperor is being played by Katy Morris with Eve Jasper and Jeremy Herr as the narrators. The little girl is being played by Kiele Casillas with Jack Davies, Cassidy Hubbard, Natalie Lett and Mia Thompson as the Four Courtiers. The Nightingale is being played by Kalaheo School alumna Lily Thompson.

This is Kalaheo Elementary School’s 11th season of musical theatre under the direction of Marly Madayag. The Nightingale begins at 7pm at the school’s cafeteria turned theater on April 25th, 26th, and May 2nd, and 3rd. Donations are welcome and tickets are available at the school, $5 for general and $1 for children under 12. All proceeds support the club’s return for the following year.  People are admitted on a first come first serve basis so come early and enjoy the food booth.  The Nightingale is sure to delight both children and adults alike with its charismatic music and clever dialogue. Come and enjoy an evening of family fun!
