WAILUA– On Sunday, October 13 organizers are presenting Hālauaola: a Hula & Hawaiian Music Benefit Concert as a special fundraiser being held to support the planning and hosting of Ka `Aha Hula `O Hālauaola, the 4th World Conference on Hula.

Focused on hula and the multiple forms of Hawaiian culture, art and practices, the international gathering is scheduled to take place on Kaua`i July 10 to 18, 2014.  Held once every four years on a different island, Kaua`i’s hosting duties of the conference next summer will be overseen by the Mālie Foundation, a Kaua`i-based non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, perpetuation and promotion of the Hawaiian culture and language.  This historic event will feature more than 100 kumu hula, master practitioners, cultural artists, experts, educators and scholars in a myriad of seminars, workshops, cultural learning excursions, performances and more over a 9-day period.
To help with the planning committee’s funding development efforts, the Hālauaola Concert has been organized to feature a stellar cast of Kaua`i’s finest musicians, kumu hula and their hālau hula including: Kau`ilani Kahalekai & Friends; Kumu Hula, Maka Herrod and Nā Hui O Kamakaokalani; Keli`i Kāneali`i and Kumu Hula, Healani Youn and the Ladies of Ke `Ala O Ka Laua`e; Lady Ipo & Nā Hoaloha, Kumu Hula, Kēhaulani Kekua and Hālau Palaihiwa O Kaipuwai; and Kumu Hula, Leilani Rivera Low and Hālau Hula `O Leilani. The event will also showcase the brilliant and amazing Hawaiian music trio, Komakakino from Hawai`i Island who is celebrating the release of their brand new CD entitled, “O Kēia Ka Manawa, Now is the Time”.  KAHOH Honorary Conference Chairperson and Kumu Hula, Nathan Kalama will be overseeing the day as the event’s official host, along with other friends and surprise guests.
There will be plenty of opportunities for spontaneous and impromptu hula and everyone is welcome to join in on the festivities.
