Beautiful, exotic orchids and creative island art and entertainment are the focus at this year’s annual Garden Island Orchid Society Spring Fantasy Show and the Hanapepe Economic Alliance Annual Kauai Orchid and Art Festival being held on April 1 and 2.

The orchid show opens 12 noon – 7 p.m. on Friday the 1st and 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday the 2nd. It will be held in the United Church of Christ in Hanapepe. The display this year is kikowaena kumu a’o ho’olu ‘okika, “the orchid kumu’s learning center”. Bring your cameras to the free orchid show and shop for orchid-themed crafts and orchid plants, see a demonstration on potting and repotting orchids, and enjoy food and beverages available for purchase from 11:00 a.m. on Friday.

In conjunction with the orchid show, the Hanapepe Economic Alliance holds their Orchid & Art Festival throughout Hanapepe Town. The Hawaiian Congregational Church in the heart of Hanapepe will be the focus of the festivities. There will be live performances Friday evening as part of Hanapepe Nights. Island recording artist Paula Fuga is the featured entertainer performing at noon on Saturday. There will be plein air painting, food booths, and games for the kids.
