Delivering a sophisticated blend of blues, R&B, funk, pop, jazz, dance and bossa nova, all with a twist, Kaua‘i’s newest music phenomenon, Dhyana Quartet, debuts Thursday at the trendy Trees Lounge in Kapa‘a.

Built on a foundation of blues and jazz ideals and dynamics, Dhyana Quartet brings panache, playfulness and personality to their performance — with a sound unique to the island’s music scene.

Founders Dhyana Dunville, in the vocals, and Edd Cook, playing the bass, set out to bring new life to a wide range of familiar music, spanning the 20th and 21st centuries. They are joined by Bill Mello on the guitar, and Dennis Pierson playing the drums, perfectly rounding out the quartet.

Don’t be surprised to hear your favorite oldies revived in a fresh and current arrangement, or a contemporary tune presented with a vintage/retro feel.

With smooth, creative guitar work, groove-driven rhythms and distinctive vocal styles, expect a highly entertaining and memorable musical experience.

Cook and Pierson were members of the band that opened Trees Lounge eight years ago. They played every Tuesday night for quite some time.

Dunville made her very first appearance singing in front of an audience at Open Mic night at Trees back in 2010.

Dhyana Quartet’s debut performance at Trees Lounge Thursday starts at 8:30 p.m.

Trees Lounge is at 440 Aleka Loop #1 in Kapa‘a, behind the Coconut Market Place and right next to Islander on the Beach.
