The Real Property Assessment Division has announced it will not require taxpayers whose 2020 Assessment included the Additional Home Exemption Relating to Owner-Occupants’ Income or Very Low Income Tax Credit for the 2020 Tax Year to re-apply for the 2021 Tax Year, according to a news release from the County of Kaua‘i.

Mayor Derek Kawakami issued an Emergency Proclamation on March 4, 2020, and a Supplemental Emergency Proclamation on April 8, 2020, relating to the COVID-19 emergency. Consistent with these Proclamations, the Department of Finance will grant special tax arrangements for real property taxpayers who qualified for the additional home exemption relating to owner-occupants’ income or very low income tax credit for 2020.

In an effort to keep everyone safe, the Real Property Assessment Division will use the submitted prior year income tax information from the current approved applicants.  The Additional Home Exemption Relating to Owner-Occupants Income or Very Low Income Tax Credit will automatically be applied for the 2021 Tax Year.

Qualified individuals who do not have a current Additional Home Exemption Relating to Owner-Occupants’ Income or Very Low Income Tax Credit will need to submit a 2021 application prior to September 30, 2020. The application can be found on the Real Property Assessment Department website at: https://www.kauai.gov/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=34IIC1sT0Xg%3d&tabid=220&portalid=0&mid=1010.
