Community invited to Kīlauea Safe Routes to School workshops

In partnership with Kīlauea School, the Kīlauea community, Get Fit Kaua‘i, and the County of Kaua‘i, the community is invited to participate in Kīlauea community planning workshops to help design the upcoming Safe Routes to School Action Plan for Kīlauea School.

There will be a series of meetings and events on Jan. 30, Feb. 1, and Feb. 8 that are scheduled during the daytime and the evenings – so the community may participate at times that are convenient to them. Children’s activities are planned for the evening meetings, so families are encouraged to participate

“The purpose of the Action Plan is to identify challenges, goals, and solutions to make it safer for keiki and families to walk or bike to Kīlauea School,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. “The intensive week-long process is intended to be community driven, to ensure that solutions reflect the community’s values and needs.”

The Safe Routes to School program is part of the Mayor’s Holo Holo 2020 Vision and relies on partnerships with schools, neighborhoods, and community coalitions such as Get Fit Kaua‘i to be successful.

Participants may sign up at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0e4eaaa722a0fc1-kilauea. If you need an ASL Interpreter, materials in an alternate format, or other auxiliary aid support, please contact Lee Steinmetz at 241-4978 or lsteinmetz@kauai.gov before the event.
