Po‘ipū, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i – In support of the enormously successful ALS Ice Bucket Challenge,  Sheraton Kauai Resortannounces its “You Dine, We Donate” program will benefit the ALS Association in September 2014. All net food and beverage proceeds at Table 53 in the resort’s signature restaurant, RumFire Poipu Beach, will be donated to the organization’s Golden West Chapter, serving the state of Hawaii and 31 counties in California. The monthly Table 53 program has raised over $74,000 to benefit the Kaua‘i community since its inception in October 2012.

RumFire Poipu Beach, the south shore’s oceanfront hot spot, features locally sourced cuisine with global influences, exciting cocktails to ignite your palate and 180-degree oceanfront views from all of its 240 seats. Table 53 features private booth seating overlooking the beautifully landscaped Ocean Courtyard, inviting fire pits, and Kaua‘i’s stunning sunsets. Guests can enjoy nightly specials and signature RumFire favorites all while supporting a worthy cause.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a fatal neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells and pathways in the brain and spinal cord.  As the disease progresses, people with ALS lose the ability to move, speak, swallow, and breathe. Currently, there is no known cause and no known cure. The disease received national and international attention in 1939 when beloved baseball player Lou Gehrig abruptly retired from baseball after being diagnosed. The Golden West Chapter of The ALS Association serves the state of Hawaii and 31 counties in California and supports the ALS Association’s mission: to lead the fight to treat and cure ALS through global research and nationwide advocacy while also empowering people with the disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support. Kaua‘i-based services include its monthly ALS support group, working to coordinate specialized healthcare services from equipment to training for people with ALS, home visits and overall support for each individual’s journey with ALS. The 2nd annual Hawaii Walk to Defeat ALS will be held on O‘ahu Saturday, September 6.

Patrons who are interested in participating in RumFire’s month-long “You Dine, We Donate” program are encouraged to make reservations in advance by calling 808.742.4786 and requesting Table 53. The table is available on a first come, first serve basis. Net proceeds for all food and beverage at Table #53 during dinner service will be donated to the ALS Association Golden West Chapter, gratuity will be paid to the server and taxes will be remitted to the State of Hawai‘i.
