image002Kauai Community Players announces auditions for Other Desert Cities by Jon Robin Baitz, to be directed for KCP by Arnold Meister, opening February 14, 2014 and running for three weekends.  Other Desert Cities is a comedy with sharply witty dialogue and an intense family drama exploring the reverberations in the Palm Springs Wyeth family when the daughter writes a book about a long-held and deep family secret.  It was a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize and is a Tony, Drama League, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle winner.  The New York Times called Jon Robin Baitz’s Other Desert Cities “the most richly enjoyable new play for grown-ups in many a season.”

Auditions will be held on Friday, December 13 at 6pm and Saturday, December 14 at 3pm at the Puhi Theatrical Warehouse. There are five roles to be cast:

Polly Wyeth:  middle aged mother, 50s-60s. Polly is strong-minded, conservative, somewhat fierce, Reagan/Nancy friend; retired Hollywood screenwriter to the pleasant life in Palm Springs

Lyman Wyeth:  Polly’s husband, 50s-60s. He is a soft-hearted former film star, former Reagan supporter and diplomat, retired to the pleasant life in Palm Springs

Silda Bravman:  Polly’s sister, 50s-60s.  She is an alcoholic in recovery, once a screenwriting team with her sister.  Silda is quite liberal and has a politically close relationship with her niece and nephew.  She is a lost soul.

Brooke Wyeth:  Polly’s and Lyman’s daughter, 30-35. Brooke is emotionally unstable.  She is obsessed with the suicide of her older liberal-cause brother about whom she has written a new tell-all book.

Trip Wyeth:  Polly’s and Lyman’s son, 25-30, who produces reality TV shows in LA.  He allows his sister her artistic freedom, but says she is naïve if she thinks there will not be consequences to her memoir.
