PR-image002KCP announces auditions for its first play of the season. Closer, by London playwright Patrick Marber, is an adult drama which was originally presented at London’s Royal National Theatre in 1997. It will be directed by Faith Harding, who directed the Sam Shepherd play True West for KCP and is a frequent actor on the Kauai stage. The four-person play has been described as “a quartet of strangers in a sexual square dance in which partners are constantly swapped, caught between desire and betrayal.”
Closer won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play and the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for best foreign play. It was adapted for the American stage and nominated for a Tony Award in 1999. The movie version was directed by Mike Nichols and starred Julia Roberts, Natalie Portman, Clive Owens and Jude Law. Portman and Owens won Golden Globe Awards and Oscar nominations for their performances. Closer will open Friday, January 10, 2014 and play for three weekends only. Closer contains sexually-explicit language and themes.
