Teen Art Exhibit spearheaded by Island School Senior Griffin Lord

Līhu‘e, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i  (March 6, 2013) – Kukui Grove Center is proud to support Griffin & Friends, a free art exhibit to be held at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery, at Kukui Grove Center next to Claire’s and Radio Shack, from March 8 through March 23.

The exhibit features a wide array of two and three-dimensional artwork by Island School senior, Griffin Lord. Lord is curating this exhibit as part of her senior project. Other artwork by over 20 of her classmates will also be featured, and will include ceramic sculptures, photography, drawings and paintings.

“The show is supposed to promote teen artists and teen appreciation of the arts,” said Lord, whose opening reception will be held on March 8 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. “I hope teachers, students, parents and grandparents can come; everyone is invited, there are a lot of interesting pieces being offered.”

A bearer of numerous awards for her work, Lord will attend The Art Institute of Chicago this fall. Her decision to curate this exhibit as her senior project stemmed from her strong desire to someday run her own shows. “It’s what I want to do when I grow up,” said Lord of her passion towards art and curating the show.  Learning to price art, display and do showings provides hands on experience for her future goals.

“I have been privileged to witness her growth,” said Nichols, Lord’s adviser for her senior project, and art teacher since third grade. “I am so proud of her and what she has accomplished. All of us at Island School look forward to the opening of Griffin & Friends.”

Lord’s favorite medium is oil painting, but her favorite piece in the show entitled, “Aura”, is a project created with Conte crayon in white, black and brown on gray paper.

The Griffin & Friends exhibit will be open Sundays through Thursdays from 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm, and Fridays and Saturdays from 12:30 to 8 p.m.
