The Beach House, located ocean side in Po`ipu, recently completed a $.5 million renovation to compliment the restaurant’s classic Hawaiian ambiance.
Kaua`i interior designer, Sara Lambson of Kala Interior Designs assisted with the project with owners Roy Dunn and Mike Hooks. The concept was to create an upscale modern feel that incorporated island features including bamboo accents, a seascape color palette, as well as rich dark wood elements.The inspiration for the improvements was simply the stunning oceanfront setting, swaying palm trees, lush greenery and Kaua`i sky.

The ocean-themed color palette for the décor was thoughtfully coordinated with new carpets, dining tables, and chair upholstery. Along with the new color scheme, the upper level wood railing was lowered several inches and replaced with a sea foam green recycled glass bar top. This improvement opened up the entire restaurant while enhancing sunset views for diners on the second tier.
An innovative bar layout was created for more spacious and comfortable seating. The design enhances flow throughout the room providing increased service efficiencies. New lighting, sound system and recycled glass bar top were also added.
Behind the scenes, the renovation provided improvements in the kitchen including a new hotline, as well as an expanded grill, sauté and fry area. The energy efficient equipment was carefully selected to provide a “greener” work environment, as well as to give temperature consistency throughout the line.
Another addition is the beautiful solid wood entry doors and etched glass that embrace diners as they enter the restaurant. In the lobby, Maui artist Kim McDonald’s new watercolor series, Polynesian Tranquility, is featured with select originals and giclees.
