Art students from numerous classes held at Kaua`i Community College have the chance to “show their stuff” now through October 15 in a KCC Spring 2012 Student Art Show held at the One Stop Center on campus. About 70 students representing nine art classes with works ranging from intermediate drawing to digital media and digital media storytelling have their works on display in the first-floor gallery.

As a branch of the University of Hawai`i, KCC draws degree-oriented students as well as adults interested in nurturing their skills for personal satisfaction. All persons draw from life experience to complete the necessary assignments that the instructors give; what is particularly appealing is the range of experiences brought to the display from students ranging in age from their late teens well into middle age and older. This exhibit is also a lesson on the influence of great artists.

On opening day, May 1, students, families of students, friends and instructors flowed through the gallery. In a walk and talk, instructors hit the highlights of their classes and students explained the inspiration for their works.

The KCC Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of Greg Shepherd and hot off their recent concert, entertained. Refreshments and the casual lounge feel with comfortable furniture and pleasing acoustics made for a fine mid-day treat.

The One Stop Center is located at the entrance to the KCC campus. It is open Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the show is well worth a visit.
