LĪHU‘E – Former Hilo Vulcan head coach Jimmy Yagi will return to the Kaua’i High School gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 5 to host his annual basketball clinics.

Coach Yagi along with basketball standout Bill O’Rear and Daphne Honma, a former high school and college basketball coach, will cover the fundamentals of the game of basketball including: ball handling drills; dribbling; passing; and team building concepts.

Youths in grades three to eight are invited to attend the first session from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The second session, which will be geared towards coaches, is scheduled from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Registration will take place at the gym prior to the start of the clinics.

Participants are required to wear basketball shoes and appropriate clothing.

During his tenure at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, Yagi ran a very successful basketball program and placed Hilo on the map when several of his teams reached the NAIA finals

After retiring, Yagi was inducted into UH-Hilo’s Vulcan Hall of Honor.
