The County of Kaua‘i Finance Department announces the following County-related changes in Standard Operating Procedures to provide for the health, safety and welfare of the people of Kaua‘i from the potential spread of COVID-19), according to a county news release.

Department of Motor Vehicles – Motor Vehicle Division

The Department of Motor Vehicles will be available to the community by APPOINTMENT ONLY, starting May 18. Appointment scheduling will begin on May 4, Monday to Thursday, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. to accommodate the 10-hour, 4-day County of Kaua‘i work week.

The health and safety of the community and our associates remains our primary focus.  Social distancing guidelines will be enforced, and masks will be required for entry and service.

We will still be accepting registration renewals and sewer payments through our drop box window located to the right of the glass doors at the Kapule building and mail will still be processed timely. The Safeway kiosks remain open as well as the online payment methods for sewer and vehicle registration renewals. Fees for these services are currently being waived by the County.

Department of Motor Vehicles – Driver’s Licensing Division

Services will be available to the community by APPOINTMENT ONLY, starting May 18. Appointment scheduling will begin on May 4. To make an appointment, please call 241-4242 Monday through Thursday, from 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. No appointments for Driving Road Tests will be available during this initial phase of reopening. Updates for Driving Road Tests will be made as information becomes available.

Real Property Assessments

Public access to the Real Property Assessment office will be closed until further notice.

All inquiries and communications can be done by emailing rpassessment@kauai.gov or call 241-4224 Monday through Thursday, from 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

A representative from the Department will return any messages within 48 hours of the call or email. Further, all documents can be submitted through the drop box located to the right of the glass doors at the Kapule building.

Real Property Collections

Public access to the Real Property Collections office will remain closed until further notice.

All inquiries and communications can be done by emailing rpc@kauai.gov, or call 241-4272 Monday through Thursday, 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. A representative from the Department will return any messages within 48 hours of the call or email.  Payments will still be processed timely and can be made in the following ways:

  • Online by credit card or e-check at our online payment website at www.kauai.gov/paypropertytax. Fees for this service is currently being waived by the County.
  • Mailed to Real Property Collections, 4444 Rice Street, Suite 463, Lihue, Hawaii 96766.
  • Submitted through the drop box located to the right of the glass doors at the Kapule building.
