Robin Savage-Thompson-President-elect of the Zonta Club of Hanalei, Laverne Bishop-Director of Hale Opio, and Jane Abramo-President of the Zonta Club of Hanalei presentng a check for $6,000.00 to Hale Opio.

The Zonta Club of Hanalei made a donation of $6,000  in September 2012 to the Hale Opio for their Mother Daughter Circle program.

This program is a structured support group for mothers and daughters(ages 11-18).

The purpose of the program is to promote a healthy and sustaining bond between mothers and daughters during the transitional years from girlhood to young womanhood.

In this program there are 4-8 pairs of mother’s or female caregivers and daughters who meet once per week for 8 weeks with two facilitators The program focuses on development of empathy and understanding, healthy communication skills, stress reduction skills, clear and reasonable limit setting, expectations, and boundaries, accountability and ownership practices, relationship success strategies, and also explore meanings and messages about being female.

Hale Opio is a non-profit community based organization established in 1975 to assist  families and children on the island of Kauai with many in-community programs that include emergency shelters,  therapeutic foster homes, Teen Court, First jobs program, teen dating violence prevention, Street Smart education, and more. The photo was taken at our monthly  Zonta Club of Hanalei General meeting which was also a  Fellowship held at  member/artist Patrice Pendarvis’ studio in Kilauea.

Our regular monthy meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at the Westin Nanea Restaurant at 1130am and are open to the public.
