The Shops at Kukui‘ula welcomes the 34th Annual Koloa Plantation Days by hosting three special events:

· Historic Sugar Exhibit and Plantation Life Storytelling – Monday, July 22, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.

· Plantation Cooking at Kaua‘i Culinary Market – Wednesday, July 24, 3:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.

· Flavors of Kukui‘ula: Koloa Plantation Days – Friday, July 26, 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

“We are excited to celebrate Kauai’s history through the annual Koloa Plantation Days festivities,” said Stacie Chiba-Miguel, general manager of The Shops at Kukui‘ula. “We look forward to welcoming guests with three wonderful nights of live entertainment.”
The Historic Sugar Exhibit will feature portraits of plantation life by photographer Tim De La Vega with a special tribute to plantation photographer Carol Ann Davis, along with a century of archival images from the plantation era courtesy of Grove Farm Homestead Museum. The exhibit will also include artifacts from plantation camp life provided by the museum and local families. The exhibit will be open daily from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. through July 26 in Suite B119 (next to Skyline Eco Adventures).

Due to popular demand, The Shops at Kukui‘ula will once again host Plantation Life Storytelling by Master Storyteller Kathy “Tita” Collins, a well-respected entertainer and well-versed storyteller in English, Hawaiian and Hawaiian Pidgin English. At the Palm Court, attendees will be able to enjoy refreshments under the stars while listening to Tita’s detailed narration of life during the plantation era, specifically experiences with Hawaiian paniolo (cowboys).

The weekly Kaua‘i Culinary Market will feature plantation foods that were brought to Kaua‘i during the sugar plantation days from diverse cultures and continue to be enjoyed by residents and visitors today. Plus a special chef demonstration will illustrate the different flavors and cultural influences of the sugar plantation era on local food.

The Shops at Kukui‘ula will also present a special Flavors of Kukui‘ula event in celebration of Koloa Plantation Days. As Kauai’s largest family-friendly pau hana party, Flavors of Kukui‘ula will pay homage to the island’s plantation heritage. Kauai’s top Kachi Kachi band, Wally Rita Y Los Kauaianos, will join the celebration, and plantation treats and delicacies will be sold street-food style along with a wide variety of refreshments.
