Ocean Safety officials have closed Keālia Beach to swimming until further notice due to a whale carcass that washed ashore Saturday morning, according to a County of Kaua‘i press release.

Officials are advising no swimming as a safety precaution. Signs have been posted, and lifeguards are monitoring the area and warning beachgoers on site to stay out of the water.

State Department of Land and Natural Resources officials were called to the site to respond to the whale carcass.

The beach will remain closed until at least Sunday morning when lifeguards will reassess if it can be reopened.
