Volunteers sought for Sticker Shock prevention campaign

Life’s Choices Kaua‘i is seeking volunteers for its Sticker Shock prevention campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the consequences of underage drinking.

The campaign is a collaboration between the county, business owners and their customers, and island youth.

On Friday, May 10, from 4:30 to 9 p.m., participants will meet at various businesses around the island that sell liquor, and set up sticker displays that call attention to the legal ramifications of providing alcohol to minors.

“We would like to invite anyone who’s interested to join us in our efforts to educate the community on the negative effects of underage drinking,” said Prevention Specialist Leialoha Sanchez. “We plan to post over 3,000 stickers that day and could use the help.”

“This initiative also enhances the leadership and advocacy skills of our youth participants as well as provide other peer-to-peer opportunities for them,” said Life’s Choices Kaua‘i Coordinator Theresa Koki. “In addition, it’s a great way for parents to start a discussion on this important topic with their keiki.”

For more information and/or to volunteer for this event, please contact Theresa Koki at 241-4925 or tkoki@kauai.gov or Leialoha Sanchez at 241-4926 or lsanchez@kauai.gov.

If you need an ASL interpreter, materials in an alternate format, or other auxiliary aid support, or an interpreter for a language other than English, please contact Leialoha Sanchez at the phone number or email listed above.
