“Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Kicks Off Summer”
National Tropical Botanical Garden to host Cinco de Mayo Plant Sale and Craft Fair Saturday, May 5,

National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG) will host a Cinco de Mayo Plant Sale and Craft Fair on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the NTBG South Shore Visitors Center located at 4425 Lāwa‘i Road across the street from Spouting Horn. From 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. this free community event will feature a plant sale, a craft fair, food trucks and live music throughout the day. Plus, those 21 and over can enjoy a beer & margarita garden. In honor of Cinco de Mayo, vendors and food trucks will offer a variety of $5 specials including $5 admission to McBryde Garden.

Early Bird access to the plant sale will begin at 8 a.m. for NTBG members. The plant sale opens to the public at 9 a.m. A huge variety of plants, from toe high ground covers to trees that can grow to 30 meters in height will be for sale. Many for just $5 each! There will be Mexican favorites like peppers, salvias and cacao and a limited quantity of “Botanical Curiosities” – rare, special and uniquely fun plants – which are expected to go fast in the early morning. As always, native favorites like the breadfruit tree (ulu will also be available.

The day long craft fair will showcase over two dozen local craft vendors selling handcrafted gift items, jewelry, art, clothing, soaps and much more. A wide variety of food trucks including Kickshaws, Chip-Wrecked Da Kine Nachos, Frozen Delights and Naruto Noodles will be on hand to satisfy guests’ hunger, and the beer and margarita garden will feature $5 specials on all drinks. Entertainment will be provided by Kauai Salsa Ohana and Gypsy Spice preforming live throughout the day. In addition, keiki and the young at heart can enjoy face painting or hamming it up at the photo booth.

“Bringing the community together to enjoy the outdoors, support local vendors and spread a love for plants is a great honor for us at National Tropical Botanical Garden,” said Tobias Koehler, Director of South Shore Gardens. “We hope people will enjoy the fiesta and find a new favorite plant to add to their gardens.”
