Get a Free Comic Book at 24 Libraries Statewide – May 5

Would you like a free comic book? Get your favorite at the 17th annual Free Comic Book Day event on Saturday, May 5. Just show your valid Hawaii State Public Library System card at 24 participating libraries statewide and receive a special free comic book, while supplies last.

Choose from titles such as Avengers/Captain America, Disney Princess, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Pokémon, Adventure Time with Fionna & Cake, Star Wars Adventures, and more. Comic book selections will vary by library.

Participating libraries include:

Oahu – Aiea, Hawaii Kai, Kailua, Kalihi-Palama, Kapolei, Liliha, Manoa, McCully-Moiliili, Mililani, Nanakuli, Salt Lake-Moanalua, Wahiawa, Waikiki-Kapahulu, Waimanalo and Waipahu

Hawaii Island – Hilo, Kailua-Kona and Thelma Parker

Kauai – Hanapepe

Lanai – Visit the Library’s booth at the Saturday Market (front of Cafe 565) from 8:00 to 10:30 a.m.

Maui – Kahului, Kihei, Lahaina and Makawao

Costumed characters from the Pacific Outpost of the 501st Imperial Legion, Rebel Legion Hawaii, and Costumers Guild of Hawaii will be appearing at selected libraries. Bring your camera for photo ops with your favorite intergalactic heroes and villains. Costumed characters will appear at:

Aiea – 10-11:30 a.m. (Spider-Man); 2-4 p.m. (X-Men’s Green Phoenix/Jean Grey and Sith Lord Elmo)

Hawaii Kai – 10 a.m.-12 Noon (Pokémon’s Team Skull Grunt) and 3-5 p.m. (Luigi from Super Mario Brothers)

Kailua – 10 a.m.-12 Noon (Rey from the Rebel Legion)

Kapolei – 10 a.m.-12 Noon (Sith Lord Elmo)

Manoa – 10:30 a.m.-12 Noon (Wonder Woman)

Mililani – 10 a.m.-12 Noon (Superman, Wonder Woman and X-Men’s Green Phoenix); 12 Noon-2 p.m. (Spider-Man)

Waikiki-Kapahulu – 10 a.m.-12 Noon (Luigi from Super Mario Brothers)

Free Comic Book Day (www.freecomicbookday.com) is celebrated worldwide on the first Saturday in May and participating libraries and comic book shops have given away millions of free comic books over the years.
