Tips on how to catch more trout at Pu‘u Lua reservoir in Koke‘e will be the subject of two free evening classes being offered on April 16 and 18 on Kaua‘i, by the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources. No registration is required, according to DLNR.

Fishers can attend either the class on Monday, April 16 class at the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center (3353 ‘Eono Street) or the Wednesday, April 18 class at the Waimea Neighborhood Center (4556 Makeke Road). Each class will meet from 6 to 8 p.m.

Topics will include fishing gear, different styles of rigging, hook, floater, sinker and line size, landing net, fishing techniques, bait and bait making, fish habitat, preserving your catch, and other pertinent information to increase your chances of harvesting trout.

Although catch and release is prohibited, correct procedures for trout handling will be discussed to point out the reason for prohibition.

DAR staff will be distributing fish feed for making dough bait. Participants are asked to bring a quart size jar with cover (one per family).  Delicious trout cooking recipes will also be available.
