It has been nearly a century since Kaua`i has seen a new large capacity hydroelectric plant. Gay & Robinson is actively developing the next, on an existing irrigation ditch system. Its rated capacity of 6.5 megawatts equals roughly 10 percent of Kaua`i’s average electrical use. It should be online as early as next year.
