2017 Recipients Announced: Fifth Annual Westin Princeville Scholarship Program at The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas

The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas is proud to announce its 2017 recipients for the resort’s fifth annual scholarship program in support of its Westin Princeville ‘ohana. Three children of Westin Princeville associates received the scholarship for 2017: Kiele Baliaris of Kapa‘a and Hazel-Lyn Jarquio of Kapa‘a each received $1,500, and Jordan Layaoen of Kīlauea received $1,000 to aid in the cost of pursuing higher education.

Baliaris is a recent graduate of Kamehameha Schools, Kapālama Campus, and will be pursuing an education in health services at Seattle Pacific University. She was active in a variety of student clubs and organizations at Kamehameha Schools and served as a council member in the Dormitory Residents Advisory Council (DRAC). She also volunteered regularly for Relay for Life and Race for the Cure. Baliaris is the daughter of Randi Levinthol, administrative assistant.

Jarquio, who graduated from Kapa‘a High School as valedictorian in 2015, is pursuing a degree in nursing at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and has completed her second year. She has maintained her Honor Roll status in college and was named to the Dean’s List for the past three semesters. Her father is Nato Jarquio in the Princeville Market at the resort.

A graduate of Kapa‘a High School, Layaoen recently completed his first year at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego and is studying physics and engineering in mechanics. Layaoen is a yearly volunteer with Special Olympics Hawai’i and took a leadership role as the special needs assistant to the director of Kapa’a High School’s Project Unified. His father is Jose Layaoen, Jr., a member of the resort’s engineering department.

“We are proud to support our associates and their families’ dedication in seeking a great education while being actively involved in their communities,” said Denise Wardlow, general manager of The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas.

The annual scholarship funds are raised through year-round, resort-wide efforts by Westin Princeville staff as part of its commitment to the community. Associates, children and grandchildren of Westin Princeville associates are eligible to apply for the yearly educational scholarship.
