Celebrate Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana‘ole’s legacy this weekend in a few different locations on Kaua‘i’s South Shore.
The Prince Kuhio Day celebration, staged in honor of Prince Kuhio’s birthday, is designed to compliment and extend the commemorative ceremonies traditionally organized and implemented by the Royal Order of Kamehameha at Prince Kuhio Park.
The celebration provides an educational experience is aimed at at establishing a strong sense of awareness about the influence and importance of Prince Kuhio — and his ancestors — on Hawaiian society to local residents and visitors.
The celebration will include the Prince Kuhio Festival at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort & Spa, which will host demonstrations and talk-story sessions by artisans and cultural specialists; artisan fare; live, local Hawaiian music; Taiko drumming and more. The event is free and open to the public.
Additionally, a luau (not connected with the Hyatt) complete with hula performances and Hawaiian music at the South Shore’s Koloa Landing Resort will serve as a fundraiser for Kawaikini Hawaiian Immersion School.
