War Memorial Convention Hall to Host 25th Annual Ho‘ike Hula Concert Feb. 4

The Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall will host the 25^th Annual Ho‘ike Hula Concert on Feb. 4. This authentic cultural event will showcase music, hula and dances of Polynesia, featuring the men, women and young hula students from Kaua‘i, O‘ahu, Reno Nevada and Japan, led by  Kumu Hula and award winning recording artist Leilani Rivera Low.

Featuring special guests the Makaha Sons comprised of Jerome Koko, Mark Yim and Kimo Artis. Their long, successful, separate musical careers are creating beautiful harmonies in their new collaboration as the Makaha Sons.

Local musicians will include Darryl Gonzales and Greg Nobriga, Tahitian drummer Mitch Asuncion, plus hula by Shadow Koko.

The lobby of the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall opens at 5 p.m. for sales of Hawaiian crafts, gifts, jewelry, clothing, and food by local vendors. Refreshments will also be available. Donate some tickets to the halau and you might win a great-sounding koa ukulele.

Auditorium doors open at 6:30 p.m., and show starts at 7 p.m. The program includes hula kahiko (traditional dances and chants), hula auana accompanied by beautiful music, Tahitian, Maori, and other Polynesian dances and rhythms.
