CELEBRATING 4 YEARS AT TABLE 53: OVER $150,000 DONATED TO KAUA‘I CHARITIES

Patrons Invited to Vote for November Recipient in October

RumFire Poipu Beach will proudly celebrate the Table 53 program’s 4th Anniversary in October 2016. The charity program at Sheraton Kauai Resort’s oceanfront restaurant donates all net food & beverage proceeds from the designated table and has raised over $150,000 toward charitable causes since launching in October 2012. As a mahalo to the patrons of RumFire who helped to make the program a success, RumFire will welcome restaurant patrons and online voters to determine the November recipient. Voting will take place from Saturday, October 1, through Saturday, October 22. During the voting period, guests at RumFire will be presented a voting ballot with their check, and an online ballot will be available at RumFire’s website (http://www.rumfirekauai.com/overview/table53). Online votes will be weighted at 1/22 of an in-person vote.

The charities nominated for November are as follows:
Kaua‘i Animal Welfare Society (KAWS)
KAWS believes every animal on Kaua’i deserves a safe and nurturing home. Their mission is to provide moral, financial and medical support for those fostering homeless pets; to end the practice of euthanasia as a means of population control, instead relying on spay and neuter and trap and return programs; and to create a sanctuary for animals not placed in foster or permanent homes.

Kaua‘i Economic Opportunity (KEO)
KEO’s mission is “To alleviate poverty on Kaua‘i.” Incorporated in 1965, KEO is a multi-purpose organization with funding from a variety of sources which it uses to plan, conduct, and evaluate a broad range of human development programs. With a goal to identify causes of poverty and develop comprehensive plans to alleviate those causes, KEO’s programs address the homeless, the elderly and disabled, childcare, among many more. The agency is the only human services organization on Kauai, whose purpose is to serve the low-income.

Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity
Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity’s motto is “Building homes. Building community. Building ‘ohana.” They seek a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Two main affordable home building programs are currently in operation – the New Home Construction Program and Repair and Renovation Program. The organization also operates ReStore, which sells new and used discounted building and construction materials, gently used furniture and more.

Kōloa Elementary School Parent Teacher Association
The Kōloa Elementary School PTA is a group of community-minded parents and teachers who have volunteered to take a more active formal role to assist the school in providing additional resources to be used to enhance student learning. Some of the programs that the PTA helps to fund include Art Awareness, Safe Routes to School, After School Programs among many others. The funding from Table 53 would be used for much-needed classroom supplies and to support PTA programs to benefit all students at Kōloa Elementary School.

Make a Wish Hawai‘i
Every 35 minutes Make-A-Wish® grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition in the United States and its territories. The organization believes that a wish experience can be a game-changer. Its vision is to grant the wish of every eligible child in the state of Hawai‘i. There are an estimated 120 children who are newly diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition in Hawai‘i each year.

The Salvation Army – Kaua‘i
Founded in 1865, The Salvation Army is one of the most trusted social service organizations in the world. Services include: youth and senior programs, food and nutrition programs, emergency and disaster services and much more. Funds from Table 53 would support the Kōkua Soup Kitchens, which serve nutritious meals on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Hanapepe Corps and Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Līhu‘e Corps. In 2015, the Hanapepe Corps served 6,364 meals, and the Līhu‘e Corps served 11,488 meals.

During the voting and through the end of October, Alaka‘i O Kaua‘i Charter School will receive Table 53 proceeds. Alaka‘i Hawai‘i is the 501c3 non-profit and fundraising arm for Alaka‘i O Kaua‘i Public Charter School. The recently approved charter school will be open to all Kaua‘i keiki, with free tuition. The school is modeled after the successful iLEAD Schools that are transforming education with project-based learning, the arts, social emotional learning and individual learning plans to enable each child to succeed. The 21st Century skills of critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity and caring will prepare students, called “learners” who will be free to think and inspired to lead. Alaka‘i O Kaua‘i Public Charter School’s mission as a project-based school is to provide a progressive, innovative curriculum that prepares learners for a successful future.

The Table 53 program is offered at RumFire Poipu Beach, Kaua‘i’s oceanfront hot spot, featuring locally sourced cuisine with global influences, exciting cocktails to ignite your palate and over 180-degree oceanfront views from all of its 240 seats. Table 53 features private booth seating overlooking the beautifully landscaped Ocean Courtyard, inviting fire pits and stunning sunsets. Enjoy the restaurant’s new offerings, such as the Makaweli Beef Bone Marrow Musubi or the Smoked Rum-hattan, all while supporting a great cause. The program reminds guests, “The more you dine, the more we donate.”

Patrons who are interested in participating in RumFire’s Table 53 program are encouraged to make reservations in advance by calling 808.742.4786 and requesting Table #53. The table is available on a first come, first served basis. Net proceeds for all food and beverage at Table #53 during dinner service will be donated to the charity of the month, gratuity will be paid to the server and taxes will be remitted to the State of Hawai‘i.
