Career Day 2016, held at Kaua‘i Beach Resort Feb. 19, attracted 48 high-school girls for a lunch date and, most importantly, for an informal chat with five inspiring Kaua‘i women: Teresa Tico, Savita Kumar, Erika Valente, Tessa McSwain and Abby Santos.

The event organizer, the county Committee on the Status of Women, seeks to develop and promote education, domestic violence prevention, health and wellness awareness and opportunities to women and girls, according to ex-officio member Lisa Ellen Smith, who is also the Kaua‘i representative at the state Commission on the Status of Women.

This year was the second edition of this inspirational event, made possible with the help of several sponsors in the community.
