Shopping center welcomes Bangkok Happy Bowl Thai Bistro & Bar, Anuenue Café, Island Taco and soon-to-open Olympic Café

Poipu Shopping Village satisfies the cravings of both locals and visitors with the addition of diverse dining offerings featuring Thai, Island Style Mexican and modern American cuisine.

Bangkok Happy Bowl Thai Bistro & Bar recently opened at the Poipu Shopping Village, bringing authentic Thai food to the South Shore of Kauai. It joins a roster of new and tasty offerings at the shopping destination, including Anuenue Café and Island Taco, and soon-to-open Olympic Café, at prices accessible to everyday diners.

“We’re very excited to have Bangkok Happy Bowl Thai Bistro & Bar and so many new restaurants join us at Poipu Shopping Village,” said Valerie Roland, General Manager, Poipu Shopping Village. “Our dining options are great for local families to enjoy a meal any day of the week, and we know that visitors love eating where the locals eat.”

Kirk Coult and Paula Rungsawang-Coult, husband and wife owners of Bangkok Happy Bowl, visited Kauai in 2013 on their anniversary and immediately fell in love with the island. They saw a need for a Thai restaurant on Kauai and found the perfect partners when they met with the owners of Poipu Shopping Village.

“Poipu Shopping Village is a wonderful shopping destination on the South Shore with a nice mix of retailers and restaurants,” Kirk said. “It’s a very vibrant place and we’re very happy to be a part of it.”

This is Bangkok Happy Bowl’s first location outside of Colorado, where it has two locations and a third under construction. The restaurant features authentic Thai cuisine and has dishes found only at the Kauai location, such as Pla Lad Prig and Pla Sam Ross, which both feature a Red Whole Snapper served with Thai herbs and spices.

Bangkok Happy Bowl serves house specialties like Pad Thai Lobster and Pumpkin Curry Lamb. The menu also has familiar fare like Pad Thai, Massaman Curry, Papaya Salad and Drunken Noodles. A full menu, which offers vegetarian-friendly options, can be found at aspenthai.net.

The restaurant makes all its dishes from scratch and uses local produce wherever possible. “By sourcing local, we’re able to provide the freshest ingredients,” Kirk said.

Bangkok Happy Bowl at Poipu Shopping Village seats 100 and has a spacious lanai with 40 outdoor seats as well as TVs in the bar area. The restaurant features nightly entertainment starting at 6 p.m. The full bar includes Thai-inspired specialty cocktails, several draft beers on tap and traditional non-alcoholic Thai Iced Tea and Thai Iced Coffee.

Bangkok Happy Bowl Thai Bistro & Bar is open 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. They also offer catering services for groups up to 100.

Poipu Shopping Village includes an array of food vendors and specialty boutiques. A full directory can be found at poipushoppingvillage.com.
