Kaua‘i Voices Celebrates 10 Seasons with ‘Simply the Best’

Simply the Best is what Kaua‘i Voices, the island’s 40-member auditioned choral ensemble, will present in its 10^th season concerts Jan. 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Jan. 24 at 3 p.m. St. Michael’s Church in Lihu‘e.

Artistic Director Randy Leonard selected the very best music from the almost 130 choral pieces Kaua‘i Voices performed in the past nine seasons.

“These are the songs that have been the most memorable, and have had the biggest impact on the singers and our audiences,” Leonard said.‘ “They are simply the best — what an amazing evening of music this will be!”

In the past four years, Kaua‘i Voices has performed many themed shows with a wide diversity of styles and sounds, including: The Music of Life, Going Places, The Elements, The Classics, A World In Harmony, Made in the USA, Music of The Heart, and The Magic of Music.

“Starting with our first show, Introducing Kaua‘i Voices, all the programs feature a mixture of classical, spiritual, jazz, pop, Broadway, blues, country, world beat and more,” said Leonard, adding this season, for the first time, Kaua‘i Voices will offer a third performance as a Sunday matinee.

Simply the Best also will feature favorite instrumentalists, who will join with the singers and soloists of Kaua‘i Voices for an authentic sound and experience, he said. Since 2011, Leonard, a choral director and soloist with more than 35 years of experience has presented two seasons a year, with Monica Chung as accompanist.

Kaua‘i Voices is a nonprofit organization, organized in 2011 to educate members of the community in the appreciation and performance of choral music, and to enhance choral music appreciation within the community by performing regular concerts. Kaua‘i Voices provides educational opportunities for individuals to learn and perform a variety of music material at an advanced level.
