The Kaua‘i Police Department along with members of the Police Commission recognized the department’s Officer of the Month at Thursday’s commission meeting, held at the Pi‘ikoi Building.
Sgt. Chris Calio of the Investigative Services Bureau was honored for his work on a Reckless Endangerment complaint that occurred earlier this year at a Kapa‘a home.
Police were called when the home’s occupants discovered a homemade bomb in their driveway which had apparently been ignited and caused damage to the area.
Sgt. Calio responded and initiated a thorough investigation. The suspect in the case was believed to be a teenage male who lived next door. Upon visiting the home, Sgt. Calio was unable to locate the suspect, but he did observe a key piece of evidence that matched evidence collected at the scene. The boy was located a short time later and confessed to the crime during an interview with Sgt. Calio.
“Sgt. Calio spent many of his off-hours to solve this case and bring closure to the victims,” stated Lt. Mark Ozaki of the Investigative Services Bureau. “His dedication to the department and the community is exemplary and we are grateful for his service.”
