Hawaii Children’s Theatre’s 2015 Summer Stars: Alice in Wonderland, JR. Playing at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center ONE WEEKEND ONLY! July 17, 18 & 19

Come and join Hawaii Children’s Theatre as they go down the rabbit hole in this year’s Summer Stars’ production of Alice in Wonderland, JR.’ Playing one weekend only at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center July 17, 18 and 19.Shows are Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 7pm, and Sunday at 3pm.

Considered one of the most famous children’s book written in English, Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ (1865), adapted for film by Walt Disney in 1951, can be seen Broadway-style by Kauai’s incredibly talented theatre youths.  Join Alice as she chases the White Rabbit, races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar, and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game in this zany junior performance.

The Summer Stars cast is comprised of 45 students and led this year by Director, Rebecca Hanson. “The keiki on this island are truly magical,” says Hanson.  “Here at Summer Stars each student gets their chance to shine, and working on Alice in Wonderland, JR. is a dream come true for me, watching the keiki grow and learn.”

Leading this kooky cast of characters is Neva Burkhart playing Alice, Sabryn Rudinoff as the Mad Hatter, Jaya Griesemer as Mathilda, Jaden April who plays the White Rabbit, and Savannah and Maddison Hubbard as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.

The cast also includes Kehaulani Roberts-Duque, Tanner Hubbard, Bailey H.K. Ponce, Sarea Panit, Noah Denbeau, Jacob David Lester, Zeke Gamby, Callie Yavinsky, Barak Aviguetero, Julia Barzilai, Sophia Riley, Parker Reed, Kaile McKeown, Ava Easterly, Zsa Zsa DuBose, Jenny Nezbeda, Katy Hoesel, Daniela Earl, Isaac Dubey, Margaret McLeod, Richelle Agor, Kala’e Abrams, Kolea Rautmann, Caleb Plowman, Jazzy Hanft, Christian Core, Melina Ventura, Conner Green, Jackson Gamby, Kaitlyn Chappelle, Mia Thompson, Jonah Cabello, Kalani Leibow, Elisha Cabello, and Carmen Swanson.

Students in the Summer Stars program have the opportunity to participate in a play from auditions to performance, as well as learn valuable theatrical skills along the way. These skills, taught through the context of the production materials, include singing (both solo and choral), dancing, stage etiquette, improvisation, scene study, and character expression through choreography. The culmination of this program is an experience students are sure not to forget; a performance onstage, in front of a live audience.
