Hot Tuna
It’s not every day that Kaua‘i residents have a chance to attend a concert by some of America’s most legendary, influential, genre-hopping musicians.
And the chance is this Saturday evening, when Hot Tuna’s Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady — founders and core members of Hot Tuna — will play at the Performing Arts Center at Kaua‘i Community College.
“It’s a great opportunity for Kaua‘i, not to be missed,” said Steven “Red Brick” Meredith of KKCR’s Deja Blues.

Original members of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Jefferson Airplane, Kaukonen and Casady formed Hot Tuna as a side project in 1969. Their passion for traditional American music with a focus on Delta Blues is still going strong 46 years later, filling theaters around the world.
Since their early days of playing music together as kids in Washington D.C., Kaukonen and Casady still love to play music and continue to travel for their musical odyssey.
Their Kaua‘i concert is the second stop of a six-concert tour around the Hawaiian Islands.

Saturday’s show is at KCC Performing Arts Center in Puhi. The doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets ar $40 in advance, and can be purchased at www.buffalo-records.com or at: Small Town Coffee in Kapa‘a, Scotty’s Music in Lihu‘e, Progressive Expressions in Koloa, Hanalei Strings and Things, and Kauai Music and Sound in Kapa‘a.

McGuinn — who last performed in Hawai‘i in 1978 — is famous for his ringing 12-string guitar sound and Top 10 hit songs such as “Mr. Tambourine Man,” “Eight Miles High,” and “Turn! Turn! Turn!” among many others.
