Unlimited Building 15 LEED-certified homes at Kukui’ula

Unlimited Builders, LLC is constructing 15 Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified custom homes at Kukui’ula in Po’ipu, an ultra-luxury residential development on Kaua`i’s south shore.

“We are dedicated to sustainability and to environmental stewardship. We look forward to the future owners of these homes being able to maintain a smaller carbon footprint,” said Jay Manzano, Unlimited’s president.

The Kukui’ula Club Cottages are all being built with insulated walls and roofs and special windows to keep the houses cooler; low-flow shower heads, faucets, toilets and landscape irrigation systems; timers on air conditioning systems and fans throughout each home; and all appliances are Energy-Star-rated. Wood for all floors comes from Forest Stewardship Council-certified forests.

Landscaping around the cottages has also been designed to be sustainable with no invasive species and by planting trees and shrubs at least 24 inches away from the buildings to prevent pests from accessing roofs. The land surrounding each home is swaled for optimum drainage.

“By following LEED recommendations, we are creating homes that will save energy for individual homeowners and for our planet. It’s a win-win situation for all of us,” Manzano said.

Unlimited has also built Safeway Beretania, for which it won first place in the General Contractors Association Build Hawai’i awards last month for completing construction in an aggressive 10-month schedule; and the $115 million Kapolei Judiciary Complex for which the company won first place in the NAIOP Kukulu Hale awards. Unlimited is currently building 64 affordable apartments at Ewa Village.
