Representative Dee Morikawa, House District 16, and Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity to build affordable housing on Saturday, May 9, 2015 in Hanapēpē in recognition of National Women Build Week

Representative Dee Morikawa (House District 16) will be among more than 40 volunteers to join Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity to address the need for affordable housing on Kaua‘i as part of Habitat’s National Women Build Week, May 2-10.

National Women Build Week is a weeklong event created by Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program that challenges women to devote at least one day to help build affordable housing in their local communities. The week also spotlights the homeownership challenges faced by women. Lowe’s donated nearly $2 million to this year’s National Women Build Week.

More than 300 Habitat for Humanity affiliates are hosting Women Build events this year.

Since 1992, Kaua‘i Habitat has built 117 affordable homes and made critical repairs to 22 existing homes for Kaua‘i families whose household income is between 30-80% of the median Kaua`i income. Because the critical need for affordable housing continues to persist on our island, Kaua`i Habitat has pledged to scale up our capacity and build our next 100 homes before the next decade.
