DOW distributes annual water quality reports

Period covered – January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011

LĪHU’E – During the month of June, the Department of Water (DOW) is distributing water quality reports for the period of January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011. The reports provide a brief summary of the quality of Kaua‘i’s drinking water and where it comes from.

A report has been prepared for each of the DOW’s nine water systems on Kaua‘i and mailed to all of its customers.

The water quality reports contain basic information on the sources of water for the nine DOW systems, levels of contaminants in the water and compliance with drinking water rules, as well as other pertinent information.

Kauai‘s water meets all of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) guidelines for safe drinking water and any contaminants found were well below the highest levels allowed by the EPA.

The Safe Water Drinking Act, a federal law, requires water utilities to provide water quality information to its customers every year.

For more information or to request additional copies of the report, please call the Department of Water at 245-5461 or visit DOW’s website, www.kauaiwater.org.
