Island Ukulele Groups Feature in EKK 2015 Opening Night Jan., 19

Walk past Neighborhood Centers around the island and fall under the spell of `ukulele groups strumming and singing. Visit a school campus during break and invariably, you’ll find clutches of kids playing `ukes. This Hawai`i pastime roars to life in the opening evening of E Kanikapila Kakou 2015, when Kaua`i `ukulele groups from Kalaheo, Kaumakani, Lihu`e, Kilauea, Hanalei and Kapa`a jam for three hours, 6 p.m.to 9 p.m.

The theme for 2015 is Music Into the Community, dedicated to Uncle Dennis Kamakahi. Watch out for spontaneous hula and feel free to jump in — singing, dancing or playing `uke, as you wish. — Bet you can’t stop yourself! An open bar and food concession hosted by the Aqua Kaua`i Beach Resort will be available in the ballroom.

E Kanikapila Kakou 2015 presents the best of Hawaiian music, musicians, composers, dancers and storytellers for 10 Monday evenings from January 19 through March 23, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Aqua Kaua`i Beach Resort in the Jasmine Ballroom.
