Storybook Theatre is proud to announce that they are receiving support and funding from the Annie Sinclair Knudsen Memorial Fund and the David S. Boynton Educational Grant in 2014. This year, Storybook Theatre received $4,000 in program support from the Annie Sinclair Knudsen Memorial Fund, which was established to support educational, religious, charitable, and cultural organizations that benefit the people, flora and fauna of Kauai.
The Annie Sinclair Knudsen grant will help support the many programs that Storybook Theatre brings to the children of Kauai, like the educational inflatable whale tour and the HICCUP CIRCUS Summer Leadership Classes that together reach more than 2,500 children on Kauai. Storybook Theatre also maintains the www.KauaiKeikiRecycles.com Website that offers Kauai recycling resources as well as games and activities to the children with an internet connection. The Read Across Kauai Day literacy event brings local authors into schools and supplies books to Kauai’s keiki and the Princess Ka’iulani Keiki Fest celebrates the life of this cultural significance public figure and her importance to the Hawaiian people.
The David S. Boynton Educational Grant awarded Storybook Theatre $1,500 to fund an art camp in Koke’e, where children will learn not only about the use of color and different media from local artist Mary Nakamura, but also about the natural history, flora and fauna of the forest in Koke’e. Koke’e’s plants are significant because many are unique, endangered, and found nowhere else in the world. The grant award fund is named after David Boynton who was a renown Hawaiian naturalist and educator and helped to found the Department of Education’s Koke’e Discovery Center following Hurricane ‘Iniki.
“We appreciate receiving continued support from these generous island based foundations, because it enables us to support our community of young people and families here on Kauai, through the programs that we offer,” commented Executive Director, Mark Jeffers.
