Our Rotary Club (of Kapaa) is helping Kanuikapono Charter School in Anahola put on their First Annual ‘Ike ‘Aina  Music Festival on November 22. Noon to 9 ;00pm.  Proceeds from it will benefit their food program because at this point they do not have facilities to prepare meals on site. They also need more infrastructure such as ADA ramp, paved driveway, extra bathrooms and new buildings as the community demand increases each year, but we wanted to kick them off with something which would help them now as majority of their students are receiving financial assistance.

It will be an all day family friendly affair starting with a blessing at noon and followed by music by various Hawaii artists including John Cruz, Papa’a Bay Boys and The Quake, performances by the school’s hula and music programs, as well as silent and live auctions.

During the event, individual classes and groups of the school’s student will have food and beverage stands set up with the help of the nearby Anahola Community commercial kitchen. They will be selling refreshments such as mamaki tea, ginger lemonade, grilled chicken, shave ice, and they will also be helping out at the Green Pig food truck.

To keep it low pressure on guests, only 10 Kauai made vendors will be allowed to display and sell their good in booths at a designated area.

Cost to attend would be $10 in advance, $15 at doors, kids under 5 free, kids 5-12 yo $5 and to make it family friendly, 1 gallon fruit tree donation for the school’s food forest guarantees 2 for 1 entry.

Overall, the event is shaping out to be a success and we have a great group of volunteers from both the parents of the school’s kids and Rotary, however we need to get the word out there. The school’s director Ipo Torio-Kauhane and everyone else would love to have the event publicized in your magazine. Do you think we can have an article on the school, the event and maybe even some or one of their individual students in your publication?

I believe this is worthy cause helping our local community and mainly keiki in need and I hope you will be able to support this cause.
